What to do if someone asks for money in chat

Last updated: July 10, 2026

How to spot payment scams in anonymous chat — gift cards, crypto, “emergency” stories — and the only safe response: leave and report.

If a stranger on Chat BI asks you for money, treat it as a scam until proven otherwise. In practice, it is almost never proven otherwise.

Common scripts

  • “I need gift cards to verify you are real”
  • “Send crypto and I will send it back”
  • “I am stuck / hospital / travel emergency — just a small transfer”
  • “I will pay you later if you help me now”
  • Romance-style flattery that quickly turns into a payment request

None of these belong in a random anonymous chat.

The only safe response

  1. Do not send money, codes, or screenshots of wallets
  2. Do not move the chat to another app “to get paid”
  3. End the conversation
  4. Block and report as spam/scam

Why “but they seemed nice” does not matter

Scammers practice sounding nice. Anonymous chat gives them a fresh audience every few seconds. Your kindness is not a debt you owe a stranger with a payment link.
