Text chat
Best for: first conversations, language practice, low bandwidth, or days when you do not want your face or voice on the line.
Text is the most private mode because you control every word you send. It is also the easiest to leave. If you are new to anonymous chat, start here.
Voice chat
Best for: people who type slowly, want a more natural conversation, or are practicing spoken language.
Voice reveals accent, mood, and background noise. Use headphones if you can, and avoid saying your real name, workplace, or location out loud. You can still keep a text side-channel for links or clarifications depending on the UI.
Video chat
Best for: when both people explicitly want a face-to-face stranger conversation.

A practical rule
Start with the least revealing mode that still meets your goal. You can always escalate later if the conversation feels respectful. Escalating first and hoping for the best is how people get uncomfortable fast.
