Camera and microphone permissions explained

Last updated: July 10, 2026

Why Chat BI asks for camera or mic access, how to allow or revoke it in your browser, and what happens if you stay in text-only mode.

Browsers block websites from using your camera or microphone until you say yes. That is a good default. Chat BI only needs those permissions for voice and video features.

When you will see a prompt

  • Starting a voice match or call → microphone
  • Starting a video match or call → camera and usually microphone
  • Text-only chat → no media permissions required

If you never plan to use voice or video, you can ignore those prompts and stay in text mode.

If you clicked Block by mistake

Chrome (desktop): click the lock/tune icon near the address bar → Site settings → Camera/Microphone → Allow, then reload.

Safari (iPhone): Settings → Safari → Camera/Microphone, or the “aA” / site settings control for the tab, then reload chatbi.live.

Android Chrome: tap the lock icon → Permissions → reset camera/mic → reload.

What Chat BI does with media

Voice and video are sent peer-to-peer between you and the other participant. Chat BI does not record your calls. See the Privacy Policy.

Safety tip

Granting permission is not the same as staying on a call. You can mute, turn the camera off, or leave whenever you want. If someone pressures you to turn the camera on, skip and report if needed.
